hi everyone, I recently learned on desmoid tumor cancer and it's quite confusing. Can somebody explain what it is exactly?
Hey there! I can help shed some light on this. Desmoid tumor, also named aggressive fibromatosis, is a rare type of tumor that develops in the body's connective tissue.
That's correct. Those tumors can occur anyplace in the body but are commonly found in the abdominal wall. they are noncancerous, but they can be locally aggressive, meaning they can invade nearby tissues and organs.
So, if they're noncancerous, why are they referred to as tumor cancer ?
Great question! while desmoid tumors are technically noncancerous, they can behave like cancer in terms of growth and invasion. They can on top cause significant hurt to surrounding structures.
And becauseĀ of their aggressive nature and potential to recur even after remedy, they're often managed by oncologists who specialize in treating cancer.
That is logic. What are the causes of desmoid tumors?
The actual cause is unknown, however they're believed to be associated with mutations in specified genes, particularly the Apc gene. They're also occasionally linked to preceding trauma or surgical treatment in the affected region.
Additionally, desmoid tumors are more common in individuals with familial adenomatous polyposis (fap), a genetic state that predisposes them to create myriad polyps in the colon.
I see. What are the treatment method options available for desmoid tumor cancer?
